about
Mystara has created a gothic rock version of a Christmas hymn which originated in 14th century France. The original French carol is called ''Noël Nouvelet''. An English version of the song emerged later on, and is known as ''Sing We Now of Christmas''. We've blended both French and English versions in this recording, to deliver a dramatic punch, going from a Medieval to Gothic Rock sound! It's a little darker sounding than your typical Christmas carol, so we thought it would be appropriate to release it on December 21st, 2020, Winter Solstice, the darkest night of the year, during the Covid-19 global Pandemic. We've called our version of the song ''Sing We Noël'' to blend the French and English titles of the hymns together.
lyrics
PART 1: (Medieval French)
Noël nouvelet, Noël chantons ici,
Dévotes gens, crions à Dieu merci!
Chantons Noël pour le Roi nouvelet
Noël nouvelet, Noël chantons ici.
L'ange disait! pasteurs partez d'ici!
Voici mon Dieu, mon sauveur Jésus Christ
Par qui sera le prodige accompli
De nous sauver par son sang vermeillet
Noël nouvelet, Noël chantons ici.
Noël nouvelet, Noël chantons ici,
Dévotes gens, crions à Dieu merci!
Chantons Noël pour le Roi nouvelet
Noël nouvelet, Noël chantons ici.
PART 2: (English Rock)
Sing we now of Christmas,
Noel sing we here.
Sing our grateful praises
To the maid so dear.
Chorus:
Sing we Noel!
The King is born, Noel!
Sing we now of Christmas.
Sing we here, Noel!
From the Eastern kingdoms
Come the wise men far.
Bearing ancient treasure,
Following yonder star.
From the distant mountains,
Hear the trumpet sound.
With angelic blessings
On the silent town.
Come let us surround Him
On this magic night.
Gather here around Him,
Wondrous Babe of light.
